LAMILUX History – A journey through the living history of our family business


Master carpenter Heinrich Strunz founds the company in Rehau.


The company is expanded to include a sawmill and starts production of ready-to-assemble timber buildings. Heinrich Strunz registers numerous patents for these innovative constructions.


Rudolf Strunz, the son of the founder, takes over the management. Under his direction, the company develops into an industrially-orientated operation.


The company, which had focused on timber processing up to this point, looks into manufacturing products made of glass fibre-reinforced plastics (GRP) for the first time. Under the new brand name LAMILUX, it produces GRP corrugated sheeting and rooflight domes.

60ER / 70ER JAHRE:

Plastic products by Rehau experience growing sales nationwide as well as in neighbouring countries. LAMILUX rooflight domes can be found in many sports centres and industrial buildings; transparent LAMILUX corrugated sheets provide roofing for pergolas and patios, and act as privacy screens on balconies.


Moving into the third generation of the family business, Dr. Heinrich Strunz becomes the managing director.


LAMILUX launches its "Daylight Systems" division, which focuses on the development and construction of continuous rooflights. In the "Fibre-Reinforced Plastics" division, production switches completely to flat sheets manufactured in a continuous process – this is the inception of modern high-tech composites.


Dr. Dorothee Strunz, the wife of Dr. Heinrich Strunz, joins the company as a managing director.


After adding aesthetically pleasing glass roof structures to the daylight systems program, LAMILUX is increasingly the project partner of choice for architecturally-demanding showpieces. Fibre-reinforced plastics by LAMILUX are sought after on international markets – especially by the caravan industry and manufacturers of commercial vehicles.

2006| 2007| 2008:

LAMILUX builds a third production line for fibre-reinforced plastics at a cost of ten million euros. For the first time, the company achieves a turnover of more than 100 million euros. LAMILUX invests nearly eight million euros in a new production hall for manufacturing rooflight domes.


The family business celebrates its 100th anniversary.


LAMILUX invests seven million euros in expanding its production capacity for glass roof constructions and rooflight domes, and starts to build a new production shop. In the same year, LAMILUX acquires Pecolit in Schifferstadt with 60 employees.

LAMILUX increases its turnover to 143 million euros. Compared with the previous year, this represents an increase of more than 25 percent.
LAMILUX is involved in the construction of the largest showpiece building in Italy. The company delivers 640 lift systems for the new convention centre in Rome, built to a design by architect Massimiliano Fuksas.


LAMILUX receives the "Product Innovation Award 2012" from internationally renowned consultants "Frost and Sullivan" for a new carbon fibre-reinforced plastic.

Again, LAMILUX is involved in a major airport project. For the new A Plus terminal in Frankfurt, LAMILUX delivers more than 100 smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems and the building control technology.


As the first manufacturer of daylight systems, LAMILUX develops highly energy efficient rooflight domes for passive houses, and successfully launches them on the market.

Products by LAMILUX are sought after internationally: The export quota reaches more than 60 percent.

LAMILUX is one of Bavaria's "Best 50" for the second time.


The family business's owners, Dr. Dorothee and Dr. Heinrich Strunz, are the "Entrepreneurs of the Year 2014". The couple receives the prestigious award from international consultants "Ernst & Young" in Berlin.
Record investment: LAMILUX invests more than 20 million euros at its headquarters in Rehau in the construction of an additional administration building and the building of a new production plant for fibre-reinforced plastics.
Record sales: In 2014, LAMILUX generates sales of 190.5 million euros with its 700 employees.  


LAMILUX has again earned numerous awards this year: LAMILUX received the “German Design Award 2015” for a highly energy-efficient glass roof construction certified for passive houses. The “SME Grand Prix 2015” goes to Rehau for sustainable and responsible company management. Highlights: a new, 13 million euro production line for fibre-reinforced plastics was commissioned in the presence of the Bavarian State Minister, Dr. Markus Söder. The revenue of 210 million euros is the highest in the company’s history.


There are numerous awards to show the successes of LAMILUX in 2016: Once again we found ourselves in Bavaria’s Best 50, and the Wirtschaftswoche TOP 50 ranked LAMILUX as one of the 15 most innovative companies out of 3500 medium-sized enterprises with a turnover of up to one billion euros. Receiving the German Design Award for the LAMILUX Roof Exit Comfort is a recognition that the daylight specialist from Rehau is making the world a more beautiful place with its products, which are of the highest design standard. In Rehau the two uppermost floors of the new office building, which was inaugurated in 2015, were set up to accommodate the management premises, among other things.

In 2016 LAMILUX won both the Deutscher Bildungspreis (German Education Prize) and the Ausbildungsass for successfully caring for its employees, and for its unique, award-winning educational concept Education for Excellence. The company MIROTEC Glas- und Metallbau GmbH, based in Wettringen, North Rhine-Westphalia, was also successfully incorporated into the LAMILUX consortium.

LAMILUX was again able to increase its annual turnover by roughly ten per cent and thus continue the strong growth trend of previous years: The family business based in Rehau with over 850 employees generated 230 million euros.


In 2017, LAMILUX increased total turnover from 230 to 263 million euros – A record result in company history. For the first time, turnover in the division of daylight elements passed the mark of 100 million euros, as well. The number of employees has also increased: More than 950 employees, among them 102 apprentices – a quota of 11 percent – are responsible for the success of the family business. The achievements of 2017 were once more rewarded with numerous prizes, such as the “German Design Award” or the nationwide “School Economy Prize”.
